Wouldn't it be nice?

We make no attributions of possible guilt in the case to the  McCann parents or anyone else. We have neither the evidence  nor the desire to do so. Instead we wait for investigation and judicial process to provide the facts.

For our regular, sensible,  readers who remain genuinely puzzled at the length of time the investigations have taken, perhaps we can make two points.
During the three years from 2008-2011 almost no real investigation took place. That was because neither the UK nor Portugal authorities had any stomach for one, given the public support for the pair and the unlikelihood of the chief witnesses altering their attitude to co-operation. The key point, then and now, is that time was  no longer of the essence, for the child was obviously dead. Urgency was no longer a factor. The Hunt for the Dom Pedro, by the way, the McCanns’ utterly ludicrous two men and no dogs “search”, about which the less said the better, may have been many things: urgent it was not.
Only in 2011, with  the McCanns’ request for an “investigative review” by the UK, was the logjam broken.  Two years later, on completion of the review,  the full Scotland Yard investigation began.
So the Yard investigation into perhaps the trickiest and most controversial case in living memory has taken some four years in all. That compares with seven years so far for the altogether simpler McCanns/Amaral libel case in Portugal. Truth can be hard to find.
Secondly we urge those of our readers who are genuinely  puzzled or disturbed by the apparently soap opera performance of Operation Grange to look for themselves – as always with the Bureau, really – rather than accept our opinions. The best way to do so in this instance is to go to McCann Files and start skimming through the sections on Grange from 2013 onwards.
All you have to do is check which reports clearly derive from  Grange statements or admissions. A large proportion of the reports are centred on Grange press conferences  so this isn’t difficult. Unfortunately, and for whatever reasons, the reports continue as if they are still quoting the police officers when in fact they are not.
You will find that 99% of the “facts” about Grange which people on twitter, cesspit and elsewhere quote as examples of the “farcical” nature of the investigation, are inventions and have not been provided by Grange either on or off the record.  Have a look, for example, at the widely believed claim  that the squad has never had focussed targeting and the cumulative building of a case but has been caught skipping like fictional comedy cops from one unlikely group of suspects to another. You won't find any evidence for the claim except the elaborate, repeated but unsourced junk rumours in the MSM and on the net. "Fictional"? Absolutely - carefully constructed  fiction.
Ever since Grange began investigating, rather than “reviewing”, this process of planting false stories, all of them to the detriment of the squad’s reputation, has continued, using  the methods of deception that we highlighted in recent Bureau posts. This, of course, adds to the complexity of the case and affects the time-scale, for we are  not on normal police investigation territory here: there is clearly a plan to misrepresent and devalue this investigation.  Not a vast and spine-chilling conspiracy to keep us awake at night, and not one likely to be threatening in the longer term because the Yard has been following it for over a year, but nevertheless, a plan and it can be seen in operation thanks to Nigel's McCann Files. Stories do not get planted without an aim.
Unfortunately for the majority of public McCann critics, who  believe  they have a  hard-bitten “they don’t fool me”  attitude to the police investigation, this interference is not coming from the stock villains - government, MI5, billionaires, police commanders, all straight from Central Casting - but,  while they are looking in the wrong direction, from elsewhere.
You will almost never find criticism of Grange on the internet or elsewhere by avowed supporters of the parents and nor will you ever find them repeating and amplifying the "blundering cops" stories as the internet critics so regularly do - much more frequently than the tabloids. That says nothing about the beliefs, credibility  or judgement of those who support the McCanns; it tells you something, however, about who the organizers of this Fake News campaign are  trying to  manipulate. And it isn't the McCann supporters.
We urge you again: don't take our word for it but go to McCann Files and at least have a glance to see the process and the interference in action. We were surprised at the evidence  of systematic deception when we saw it there. You might  be too.

Wouldn't it be Nice?

Many things which had been bubbling below the surface in the UK erupted in 2016, most of them good, one of them, particularly if you are a democrat, absolutely wonderful and game-changing – the assertion of power by ordinary people in a referendum which brushed aside a prime minister like a leaf in the wind.
In a thoroughly strange way the McCann Affair has always reflected events and attitudes in wider UK society. It began like some sort of creepy bacillus thriving on the remains of the Blair Rich Project, that scarcely believable culture of lies and routine deceit; later, it added, in a small way,  to a general sense of cynicism and helplessness following  the great crash of 2008.
Lord Mandy strutting in ermine.  Says it all.
It would be appropriate if events in the Affair in 2017 added to the new optimism that can now be felt buzzing – away from the wreckage of the MSM and its depressed and bewildered crew – in the UK.
To those  readers who share our outlook, not our opinions, and who therefore matter a great deal to us at the little Bureau,  a merry Xmas, as always.

Forgive and Forget

The Bureau says: A couple of stories today. The evidence of public support for the Tories, and the way that clear winners, however humble their background, find a home with them,   grows apace - but first a Xmas plea for tolerance, forgiveness  and good sense.
Forgive and forget. That should be the message to the journalists who have hounded Jeremy Corbyn for appointing Jayne Fisher, who worked as an aide for Gerry Adams and is known as an IRA sympathiser, to his office.

Look,  you can’t go on living in the past. Things have changed. Gerry Adams may have carried a revolver once but so have lots of people  and we doubt if he  has one in his waistband now. After all, there are plenty of people  whose past can look revolting, dishonest, wickedly sly,  even. And we've known, especially in the Blair years, a few absolute swine who made the most of that period and thrived, like maggots on  an open wound, in that era of deceit and lies. But no doubt they thought there was a lot at stake.

Yes, they stank like rotten fish marinated in  human pus - although we stress we're not talking about Jayne Fisher, who is described by  the  Bearded Elf as "lovely"  - and perhaps that filthy stench will never completely go away but as times change, so do our perceptions.

There  are some  who now probably regret having supported vile causes, public outrages, murderers and suspects and  we should give them time to come to terms with their horrible  pasts.

For there will always be those who close their eyes to wickedness when it benefits them.  And there will always be public defenders, whether of  Stalin, Chavez or less exalted common criminals, people who lie, lie and lie again when paid well to do so. But times change and we must change with them.

Of course, if it turned out that M/S Fisher had actually aided criminals, if, for instance, a couple of her ex "pals" or even "family friends" were to be arrested and charged in 2017 for past kneecapping frolics, then that would rather change things.

Obviously it won't happen to M/S Fisher but if, hypothetically, some of the less savoury Displaced Persons from Blairland  were found, for example, to have taken hundreds of thousands of pounds from  contemptible criminals in order to protect them, then that would be different. Very different indeed. Then the law, and public disgust, should take its course.

In the meantime, however ugly, villainous or corrupted these people appear, however much their dishonesty is etched into their faces by their past actions, let us be tolerant this Xmas.

Answers Wanted

WANTED

Kate and Gerry McCann have always said they will not comment about the investigation into the fate of their daughter.

So why do they allow  Clarence Mitchell to spread rumours in the press about Operation Grange?

Why does he use false identities – such as “a source” and a “family friend” to give credibility to these stories?

Why does  he talk to the press about new possible suspects – giving them time and reason, of course, to kill the McCanns’ daughter?

Why won’t he shut up?

Why won’t the McCanns stop him?

What is the aim?

What is the motive?

No Choice - the McCann Way

**The McCanns' spokesman is briefing  on the Grange investigation in ways which could be harmful  to the course of justice. Until he and his clients cease to do so then we'll point them out.**

"Can you imagine what would have happened if ...

In the week following May 3 2007  Kate and Gerry McCann did two things.
  1. They claimed explicitly and publicly that they supported the police investigation.
  2. They began anonymously spreading poison about the police investigation using proxies.

"...we’d announced to the journalists heading for Huelva...

When the PJ began developing lines of investigation that the parents might describe as "unhelpful", they moved on and developed an elaborate and well-funded system for briefing the British public against the PJ. In order to reduce the chances of  being found out - for what they were doing was illegal - they used the coaching provided by PR man Alex Woolfall to set up a highly structured and complex mode of news management.

"...that the police were coming to do some forensic work in our villa?"

Journalists at the Leveson inquiry described  the way that a “code” was developed by which the journalists, but  not the public,   would know that certain information came from Mitchell on behalf of the McCanns, even though it was usually claimed to come from elsewhere. At the end of each story Mitchell would be identified and  pretend to be “responding” (to the stuff that the McCanns had fed or invented!) on behalf of Kate & Gerry McCann.

“Today was a bit of a write off for me...

In May 2011 Scotland Yard set up an "investigative review" into the case in response to requests from the  McCanns. For the first few months the remnants of the McCann media team stayed quiet.
In early 2012 it emerged – via Goncalo Amaral in the first instance – that Scotland Yard, quite unknown to the McCanns, hadn’t been spending all their time marking the PJ nought out of ten for  “errors”   but were working hand in glove and “very amicably” with another, large and hand-picked, PJ team.

"...as I was laid low with a probable viral illness...

A week after the news, with all that it implied,  emerged and was confirmed by the Portuguese government, the McCanns’ Portuguese lawyers began spinning for the first time since 2008 in the Portuguese media, claiming – guess what? –  that it was a “new lead” that had emerged. Yep, a new lead. That was why the Portuguese squad had been created, they said.  There was no new lead.

"...which meant I could not stray too far from the house!”

In 2013 the Yard announced that they were moving from  the review phase into the investigation phase, although, in fact, it had, again unknown to the McCanns, already begun. At which point the wheels began to whirr and haven't stopped since.
Exactly the same techniques have been used by Clarence Mitchell on behalf of his employers, the McCanns, as were used in Portugal to destroy the credibility of the original investigation: overt support for Grange by the couple combined with covert fabricated or embroidered stories about either “new leads” or “difficulties”.

"We’d never lied about anything…But now we found ourselves in one of those...

They have continued to this day, although with noticeably diminishing skill, conviction and energy. At no time have the parents ever asked Mitchell to stop the  spinning.

"...tricky situations where we just didn’t seem to have a choice…"

Now come on readers, we know that the loonies look for ever more convoluted theories, more wheels within wheels - because, after all, it's fun.  But you don’t need them: none of us do. All you need to ask is why the McCanns have acted in precisely the same way with Operation Grange from 2013-2016 as they did with the PJ investigation in 2007/8. Then you'll find your bearings.

Lenin's "Useful Idiots"

Despite the health warnings there are still people claiming that there is some truth in the latest batch of false stories provided by Kate and Gerry McCann and their media team.

There is none whatever. Exactly as there was none whatever in Kate & Gerry McCann' s lies to the British press pack described in the health warning yesterday. Exactly as Gerry McCann's "illness" described in his blog to augment the lies to the press was a complete invention to disguise the fact that they were being investigated. And there are more examples.

We'll take one "Useful Idiot", in Lenin's phrase to stand for all, a Twitter entity calling itself Stephen Motson who claims, among other wind,  to be a "private investigator".

Motson has stated that the claims made by the three liars are true. He has been asked on twitter #mccann today to quote the words that back up his claims. He has wriggled, he has bluffed, he has insulted, he has lied. But the one thing he can't produce are words that the British and Portuguese police and Whitehall civil servants used.

Because there aren't any.

Prize Time

"Scotland Yard are now investigating as high priority a critical new lead: that Madeleine McCann was abducted by a gang of people traffickers."
No, they are not. The Bureau offers a free Kindle copy of the AJS comic masterpiece No Stone Unturned to the first person producing  words from Scotland Yard, not anonymous liars, stating this.
Senior  Whitehall officials have been briefed about it  by the   police because it is so important.
No, they have not. The same prize is offered for any words from police or civil servants, not anonymous liars, stating this.
As a result extra funding has been granted for more months of investigation.
No, it has not.
Even the trolls aren't claiming that that lie is true.
The Metropolitan Police are calling this the "last throw of the dice".
No, they are not. The same prize for these words uttered  by a Yard officer, not an anonymous liar.
The Portuguese police have said that both they and the British are focusing on this "latest theory".
No, they have not.
The same prize for any words from any Portuguese police officer stating this, either on or off the record.

Note for Useful Idiots and pretendy private investigators: when a story quotes a "source" as the origin of what the police are claiming, that means "not a police source" - otherwise they call it a "police source". Get it?

Motson, the "private investigator" is therefore either a troll or a moron lacking text comprehension, or, as is likely, both. But readers interested in these things should go back to the original reports themselves and see exactly how this team of nauseating liars structure their stories in order to deceive not just useful idiots but ordinary members of the public.  As they have been doing since they were first investigated in 2007. That's what they do.

Health Warning

Health Warning

Before reading any media stories from Kate and Gerry McCann and their "ex-employee" Clarence Mitchell, readers are reminded of their track record when it comes to deliberately lying and misleading the public  during live police investigations into the disappearance of their daughter

Kate McCann describes August 2 2007, when four detectives seized their clothes and possessions, in her book Madeleine - and she and Gerry McCann conspired to lie to assembled journalists to conceal the fact that they were under investigation:
“The police wanted to come over at 10am… We’d never lied about anything…But now we found ourselves in one of those tricky situations where we just didn’t seem to have a choice… can you imagine what would have happened if we’d announced to the journalists heading for Huelva that the police were coming to do some forensic work in our villa?"
Gerry McCann then repeats and adds to the lies the same day in his "blog"  - after the police had made them leave the villa for some hours while it was examined:
“Today was a bit of a write off for me as I was laid low with a probable viral illness which meant I could not stray too far from the house!”

Whose last throw of the dice?

We don't write these days  about possible legal action against possible suspects because of the risk of prejudicing any future legal action. In this case, however, we make an exception - since Kate & Gerry McCann appear to be doing so themselves.

Nothing changes

The Latest Story

This story was prepared and fed to the press solely by Kate and Gerry McCann and their "ex-employee" Clarence Mitchell. The McCanns authorised Mitchell to pretend to be a source within the investigation, with the condition attached that the papers carrying the story were not to name him as the true source. Mitchell  has no knowledge of any kind regarding recent operations of Grange.

Readers may wonder why the McCanns, who have countless times stated that they do not comment on Grange operations, should be providing misinformation about  an investigation dedicated to discovering the fate of their daughter.

One answer lies in the consistency of their "anonymous" media interventions: the message is always the same - Grange is always picking out absurd new "suspects", always running out of  money, always "throwing dice" or going for "last hopes", always failing to nail anyone, always failing to get co-operation from the Portuguese.  With such a record of chaos and failure their eventual conclusions are bound to be, surprise, surprise,  worthless. Just as the conclusions of the PJ were in 2007, when the same corny "last throw of the dice" stuff was used against them.* They're a very unlucky couple with  investigations into the fate of their daughter, aren't they?

Their greatest allies in this strategy are not the MSM but the net and twitter loonies who fall for this guff every time as proof that Grange is a "charade". But then they've  been ruthlessly  used by the couple for at least the last three years, the poor sods.

 The "Details"

Scotland Yard are now investigating as high priority a critical new lead: that Madeleine McCann was abducted by a gang of people traffickers.
No, they are not. The claim is an invention by the McCanns' media team.
Senior  Whitehall officials have been briefed about it  by the    police because it is so important.
No, they have not. That is an invention by the McCanns' media team.
As a result extra funding has been granted for more months of investigation.
No, it has not. No extra funding whatever has been granted. The funding remains the £95 000 granted earlier this year, which runs until April 2017. It is an invention of the McCanns' media team.
The Metropolitan Police are calling this the "last throw of the dice".
No, they are not. No such comment has been made by any officer of the Yard. It is an invention of Kate and Gerry McCann's media team.
The Portuguese police have said that both they and the British are focusing on this "latest theory".
No, they have not. No Portuguese police officer has made such a statement, either on or off the record, as any reader can see for themselves. It is an invention of the McCanns' media team.

Poor Old Useless Grange

In 2014 the Bureau, without making a fuss about it, revealed how Grange had located the inside source of a number of leaks about Grange "difficulties" and "problems" being used in Mitchell-placed stories.   How did they find it? Using the intelligence services technique of constructing a fictional report,  tracking where it surfaced and then tracing it, irrefutably,  back to the offender - in Portugal. Where the McCanns PR people Lift Consulting are based. The leaks ended.

It would be very foolish for Mitchell to believe that Grange stopped doing things like that back in 2014.
